Baby Dear Baby Shower: The Invitations

I recently threw a baby shower for a dear friend of mine.  I collect Golden Books and have been looking for an excuse to throw a Golden Book party for years.  I even found a site that puts books in diaper cakes here. Baby Dear was my favorite book as a little girl, and I thought it would be perfect for a Golden Book themed shower for a baby girl.  I was a bit giddy with excitement over the idea of a Baby Dear shower.  :)

With a book theme, of course the invitations have to look like the book, right?  I scanned in my old copy and prettied it up a bit in photoshop (30 years takes its toll on a well-loved children's book).

I erased "A Little Golden Book" from the front cover and replaced it with "A Little Baby Shower" in a similar font.

I just love that I was able to get the back cover and the trademark spine on my invitations, too.   (Even if the spine is a worn silver now instead of the original gold.  I like the worn look better, so I didn't try to fix it.)

I even put in the inside cover, with the bookplate and everything.  So cute!  The party information was written in a similar font to the original story and I put in an illustration from the book.

I am seriously in love with these invitations.  I guess I'm just a Golden Book nerd.  :)

"Love Is A Battlefield" Valentines

I have my next sewing project all cut out and ready to sew, but first I have to make sure my boys have valentines for their class parties.

I saw these cute valentines by Jacolyn Murphy (she has a ton of really cute Valentine ideas!) about a month ago and decided that they'd be perfect for my boys.

They're cute, easy, and best of all, they were cheap!  :)  I found these army men on clearance at Target for 25 cents a bag.  Since I already had the cardstock and ink used to print the hearts, I made 54 valentines for only 75 cents.

I made the heart in Photoshop Elements.  The words are written in this cute soldier font I found at dafont.com.

Since I know I love free printables, I'm sure you must too, so I made you a free printable of this valentine so you can print them at home.  All you need to do is put your child's name at the bottom.  You can use whatever photo software you have to add the text, or you can just write it on.  (Both the large heart and the small heart by the name are just basic heart shapes using the shape tool in PSE, in case you want to add the heart, too.)

Enjoy and have a happy Valentine's Day!

How do you display your Christmas cards?

Growing up, my parents always sat the Christmas cards they'd received on top of our piano. My husband's parents taped theirs to the wall. I've seen card wreaths and garlands. There seem to be hundreds of ways to display your Christmas cards. This is mine.

I use 3M tape to attach three ribbons to our basement door and clip the cards to the ribbons as we receive them.

Years ago, I found a bunch of cute, Christmas-themed, tiny clothespins.  That's what I use to attach the cards.

The ribbons are fairly short because I still have a little guy around the house who would love to yank them down.  But, as my family grows, I may replace the ribbons with longer ones.

It doesn't really matter, though, because I can fit quite a few cards on those ribbons.  The early-birds get the best, and most visible, spots though.  :)

Speaking of Christmas cards, have you gotten yours ready to send out yet? If not, you may want to check out the adorable holiday cards at Tiny Prints. I used Tiny Prints for my youngest's baby announcement and I think their stuff is super-cute.

Aren't those cards cute?!  Check out more of their cards here.

Halloween Card

This is the card I made for my September card group.  I was feeling like making something simple.  I'd seen a couple items of pin-punch art on pinterest, and thought this would be a simple way of making a quick Halloween card.

I just printed out "Boo" in a font I liked, laid my card and the template I made on top of some left over cork board I had laying around and punched an outline around the letters with a push-pin.

My inspiration was a ghost--all white and says "boo!" right?  :)

Lots and Lots of Flowers

I've been making lots of tissue paper flowers this week. I'm throwing a "flower garden" baby shower for a friend. These are the invitations I made:

I got the idea from Inchmark.  It's a nice departure from typical party invitations, don't you think?  And, I was still able to mail them.  The tissue paper pressed flat very prettily.

All the little flowers were so pretty, I almost didn't want to mail them out!

Card Club: August

Here's this month's card for my card group!

It was inspired by this card, that I found on Pinterest.  I loved how simple it was and how fast it went together.

Card Club: June

For this month's card, I made an orange popsicle card!  I got the idea from a card I'd seen many, many years ago.  I used some craft sticks I had laying around for the popsicle stick, and a scalloped punch for the bite out of the popsicle.  The white paper inside makes it look like it's a creamsicle; yum!  :)

I don't stamp, so I just found a cute font for my summery message and printed it on my cardstock (it took a little bit of measuring to get it in the right spot).  I think it's a cute, summery card!

Teacher Gifts

Where are these mythical lazy summer days I keep hearing about?  They're certainly not at my house.  It's busy busy busy over here.  With last day of school festivities, houseguests, a wedding, making what feels like zillions of scripture totes for Girl's Camp, hosting book club, as well as normal daily life, I could use a breather!  So, it's no surprise that posting has been a little light here on Jengerbread Creations.

But, I have a little craft to hold you over until things settle down a bit over here: This year's teachers gifts for my kids' teachers.  I usually just do the gift card thing, but with so many cute ideas out there, I wanted to jazz it up just a little bit.

Isn't this pencil bundle cute?!  I love buying school supplies.  The adorable little notes are from No Fuss Fabulous.  And, I still included the Target gift cards I usually do (the gift card is strung on the ribbon right behind the notecard), since I know how much teachers appreciate gift cards!

Card Club: May

Since Father's Day is just around the corner, I thought I'd put some Father's Day cards together for this month's Card Club meeting.

Yet again, I'm a bit of a copy cat. I made some shirt-and-tie cards like these at mmmcrafts. They're so cute; how could I not make some?!

These are mine:
This one is my favorite.  I kind of fell in love with this floral tie, even though flowers aren't too manly.  But, you've seen floral ties around, right?  Right...?

I wanted my shirts to be more than just solid colors, but this gingham was the best I could find.  With all those cute scrapbook papers out there, there must be some plaid papers somewhere.  But, I didn't find any easily, so gingham it was.

Card Club

A few friends and I have a card club. When I started going, I really didn't know how to make cards.  But I went anyway, for the fun of it. I learned as I went along, and I think I'm getting better. These are the cards I made for last night's meeting:

I made them from the Flower Card pattern/tutorial at mmmcrafts.  Some day I'l get good enough at this card-making thing to come up with my own designs.  :)
I had fun picking the fabrics out of my fabric scraps.  I like the blue and red ones, and the green and red ones a lot.

But, I think this one, in purple, is my favorite:
It got given away in our card swap last night.  I think I might need to make another one for myself.  :)
