</div>
I made this lovely family tree as a Christmas gift this year. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. <br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAxqz330HRKjzrNuIufSR_gMm8wfZbkZi1YlicL6ms4HV8NwXpbQaXiO6tQsDlvomndajzvntmon9CAKls7lBYze_-5nV90KZbpXC4Pkcoq3rwutCTCLsWs88Ej7Ii1_l6CDU0_-bIFIDn/s1600/FamilyTreeEmbroidery3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAxqz330HRKjzrNuIufSR_gMm8wfZbkZi1YlicL6ms4HV8NwXpbQaXiO6tQsDlvomndajzvntmon9CAKls7lBYze_-5nV90KZbpXC4Pkcoq3rwutCTCLsWs88Ej7Ii1_l6CDU0_-bIFIDn/s1600/FamilyTreeEmbroidery3.jpg" height="320" width="212" /></a></div>
<br />
I sketched out the names on a piece of paper (over and over again, to make it look just right), then traced the tree onto some muslin with a washable fabric pen. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTtwAwPGxFwpPYf_39_4NeUIwOI4cKL28kTBK2Blnn7gUTOS-WvdV4udx85QwIf16dnomySygzaSyJ3kztlbkaVuHEVdZvMSqBKmRkrkVJfIfcCkJj_dpk42CcUIsduWVgV_3B3Bjyujjq/s1600/FamilyTreeEmbroidery2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTtwAwPGxFwpPYf_39_4NeUIwOI4cKL28kTBK2Blnn7gUTOS-WvdV4udx85QwIf16dnomySygzaSyJ3kztlbkaVuHEVdZvMSqBKmRkrkVJfIfcCkJj_dpk42CcUIsduWVgV_3B3Bjyujjq/s1600/FamilyTreeEmbroidery2.jpg" height="212" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then, it was just a bunch of chain-stitches (and a handful of french knots to dot the i's). I stitched the names of children in dark green and grandchildren in light green. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie8KKH2nxGvCccpp2RfToQW4ZQo89Q6Y00JCs0IS861xeH6SY7W-Il2TK0AmGsDHaoFIY-vMS_mbYMS8fCaAtqVrzqaj1xeAK82FjgzIRuuOT7rmXYaN-9ToBE-EM1d59bnr-kI3XlYJgG/s1600/FamilyTreeEmbroidery4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie8KKH2nxGvCccpp2RfToQW4ZQo89Q6Y00JCs0IS861xeH6SY7W-Il2TK0AmGsDHaoFIY-vMS_mbYMS8fCaAtqVrzqaj1xeAK82FjgzIRuuOT7rmXYaN-9ToBE-EM1d59bnr-kI3XlYJgG/s1600/FamilyTreeEmbroidery4.jpg" height="212" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
After washing the fabric pen ink out, and ironing it, I framed it in an 8x10 frame. I really love the end result. And, the recipient of the gift loved it too, which makes me so happy!Jenny, aka "Jengerbread"http://www.blogger.com/profile/10809300955073025733noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8323428187219945563.post-47244421508585629702014-04-18T17:33:00.000-06:002014-04-18T17:33:04.534-06:00Hot Cross Bun Printable Tag<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My English great-grandmother made hot cross buns every Good Friday, as many do. Because of this heritage of mine, I too began making hot cross buns each Good Friday. It not only marks the occasion of Good Friday, it forges a bond between myself and my great-grandmother and our English heritage. And, being a family history nerd, I like that connection. :)</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This year I discovered a lovely historical tradition regarding hot cross buns. Apparently, t<span style="background-color: white;">hose
who share a hot cross bun are supposed to enjoy a strong friendship and
bond for the next year. A line from an old rhyme captures this lore, "Half for you and half for me, between us two, good
luck shall be." </span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKZ0b08dgHCXh12pwqxTTU8szLOxgJPiQl_F80t8m1NF5D9sBNwp5Yvs5IYSuzswm84rnO8aZmgxC4E27pNMpunVSXnY7zOTa8Dw7nzt52-hK92bxs4YcgroZSwwDgg4taVso9_0meG5IT/s1600/goodfridaytag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKZ0b08dgHCXh12pwqxTTU8szLOxgJPiQl_F80t8m1NF5D9sBNwp5Yvs5IYSuzswm84rnO8aZmgxC4E27pNMpunVSXnY7zOTa8Dw7nzt52-hK92bxs4YcgroZSwwDgg4taVso9_0meG5IT/s1600/goodfridaytag.jpg" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white;">What a great tradition! So, I thought I'd take a plate of hot cross buns over to a couple friends today. And, of course, I needed a tag to go with it. :) So I whipped one up in photoshop. I rather love it. :) </span></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm a Webelos Den Leader. Our Cub Committee asked me to head up the Blue and Gold Banquet this year. Here's what I came up with.</div>
<br />
The boys in our pack LOVE <a href="http://www.byutv.org/show/c68c4e4f-6322-4a23-8b8e-a5be75b70635/studio-c" target="_blank">Studio C</a>. Have you seen it? It's a clean sketch comedy show on BYUTV. They're obsessed, acting out their favorite sketches in den meeting all.the.time. So, I thought it'd be a fun theme for the Blue and Gold Banquet.<br />
<br />
My little guy helped me set up. Well, actually, I did most of the setting up while he was at kindergarten, but then had to come back to fix something and brought him with me. While I chatted with a friend, he started setting up chairs, and didn't want to stop! He did 80 chairs all by himself! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
My favorite thing I made for the event was the invitation. See how
cute? (The background is actually white, but for some reason it uploads
gray...).<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
I integrated the Studio C logo into the word 'cub' so the theme could be Studio Cub Scouts. I love it! <br />
<br />
I made simple centerpieces (I tried to do things cheaply, since we only had a $45 budget for the whole event!). I printed the words 'studio' and 'cub scout' with my home printer, then cut them out and glued them front and back to a small dowel. I filled mason jars that I had laying around with tissue paper and the signs and we had an easy-peasy centerpiece!<br />
<br />

A small table next to it held the posing props (Most of which were free printables...which, I apologize, I have lost the links to. A few (like the angel wings, halo, and a few others) I made myself.<br />

The props allowed the boys to pose like their favorite Studio C characters (like <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jh4Mpgbi4A" target="_blank">Captain Literally</a>, <a href="http://youtu.be/PHM01zr1MuU" target="_blank">Shoulder Angel</a>, <a href="http://youtu.be/vM7IDgCuL8s" target="_blank">Awkward Avoidance Viking</a>, and <a href="http://youtu.be/A2KCGQhVRTE" target="_blank">Lobster Bisque Guy</a>). I think they enjoyed it. :)<br />

I found <a href="http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2012/04/hot-dogs-for-crowd.html" target="_blank">an awesome tip</a> on Pinterest about cooking a lot of hot dogs at once in a crockpot. What a lifesaver! (I had a few questions about what that "plastic wrap" is. It's a crockpot liner. What a great invention; it keeps you from having to scrub cooked on food off your crockpot!)<br />

In addition to dinner itself and the photo booth, each den did their own
funny skit and we watched a few Studio C sketches on a big screen. And,
of course, there were the usual Cub Scout things like flags and awards
and the like. :) It was a fun evening.<br />

<br />
Does your school celebrate the 100th Day of School? My kids' elementary school does, in the lower grades at least. Each kindergartner was supposed to wear a shirt with 100 things on it on 100th Day. This is what he and I came up with. He LOVES it and wears it whenever he can. I think it's pretty darn cute, too. <br />
<br />
I drew a monster on a clearance Target t-shirt with fabric paint pens. Then, we hot glued 100 googly eyes to it. I have no idea whether hot glue will hold up in the washer (I'm guessing not), so I've been hand washing it. He's worn it to school like 5 times now (in fact, he's wearing right now!). <br />
<br />
It makes me smile when I see it (and how happy he is to wear it)! <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
My entryway has been kind of boring for a long time. I LOVE my little bench there, but my art was a little blah. I loved my house-rule art, but its frame and mat were looking a little dated (I bought it back in 2001, so it was definitely rocking that late 90s style).
<br />
<br />
I redid <a href="http://jengerbreadcreations.blogspot.com/2012/02/entry-table-before-and-after.html" target="_blank">the other area in the entryway</a> some time ago, and loved the bright colors, so I thought I'd do something similar in this corner to spruce things up a bit. <br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
I gathered all sorts of frames for my eclectic little wall, mostly ones I already had, and painted them either yellow, green, or turquoise. My house-rules sign (all close-ups of which came out blurry and I'm too lazy to reshoot :) was rematted and painted green. I like the crisp white mat WAY better than the marbled 90s forest green there previously. </div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="text-align: left;">I don't know about you, but I'm totally addicted to Instagram. I use it all the time. It's a lot of fun. I take so many great pictures with it that I want displayed. So, I came up with a great way to display them. </span></div>
</div>
<div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRhY2Pcz0S9GziKGwXzqFcnZClNaxXWSSb8eQDmbVtPEHgOpt064SbwFl0uwwzTZmwj-eyQbT2rtDn2OHDsGC1gPtd8fvJuzd6vGJgimbq36rt-uSRPGgj3ojudv6kSKYqwjDbTALI3cxB/s1600/instaframe.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRhY2Pcz0S9GziKGwXzqFcnZClNaxXWSSb8eQDmbVtPEHgOpt064SbwFl0uwwzTZmwj-eyQbT2rtDn2OHDsGC1gPtd8fvJuzd6vGJgimbq36rt-uSRPGgj3ojudv6kSKYqwjDbTALI3cxB/s400/instaframe.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
I've seen places out there that will print your instagram pics for you. But, I'm cheap. :) I just use <a href="http://picasa.google.com/" target="_blank">Picasa</a> to print them on my home printer. I upload my pictures from my camera roll on my phone to my computer, and since I use Picasa to organize all my pictures, I just tell it which ones to print. I chose wallet-size, and selected shrink-to-fit. I printed them onto cardstock, then cut them out with my paper trimmer. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
To display them, I found an old 11x16 frame I had laying around and painted it. I'd planned to turn it into a bulletin board, but my cork wouldn't stay flat, so I kept the glass in the frame, with the cork as a background. Then, I just used washi tape to tape my pictures to the glass. Easy, cute, and simple. Exactly the way I like it.<br />

<div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;">

<div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;">

And, it couldn't be easier to change out my pictures when I feel like it. I love getting to see all my happy little pictures every time I walk past!</div>

I got a little too caught up in it being a "sewing blog" there for awhile. I got too busy to sew, plus put on a few pounds that I wasn't anxious to show off all over the internet, so I stopped. And thus, the blog suffered. <br />
<br />
But, this was never intended to be just a sewing blog. It's any and all of my creations. Hence, Jengerbread Creations. So, I'm broadening my scope. I make plenty of creations on a regular basis. I just don't photograph them and upload them because they're not necessarily a cute dress or fabulous craft. <br />
<br />
I may post recipes when I feel like it, home improvements, Cub Scouts stuff, or school projects (I've got Colonial Day costumes and 100 Day T-shirts to do this month, so why not post them here? I bet many of you are busy moms to school-age kids who may appreciate the ideas!).<br />
<br />
I hope to post more regularly than I have, but it won't be daily, maybe even not weekly. Who has the time? I sure don't. I never intended this blog to be a big-time business type blog, but I don't want to abandon it entirely just because I'm busy, either. Hopefully this plan solves that. Because, I really love sharing my creations with you!<br />

My family and I spent last weekend hanging out on the couch, eating snacks, and watching conference on TV. I love this chance we get twice a year to spend this family time together, being inspired and taught. And, I love turning some of my favorite quotes from it into pretty printables after conference is over. :) <br />

Time to get back to blogging! It was a fun, though busy, summer for us. Band camp, scout camp, family reunion, all sorts of fun things to do all summer long! Our family vacation this year was to <a href="http://www.historicnauvoo.net/" target="_blank">Nauvoo, Illinois. </a> It's kind of a living history sort of place. It factors largely in <a href="http://mormon.org/" target="_blank">my church</a>'s history and my family history. It's a place I love to visit and my boys think it's very fun. They got to try all sorts of fun old-fashioned things from the 1840s--making rope, having a log-sawing contest at the country fair, and seeing a bunch of demonstrations, from making horseshoes to baking bread. <br />
<br />
Gearing up for my Nauvoo trip, I wanted an easy way to refer to information about my ancestors who lived there. My children have 30 direct-line ancestors who lived in Nauvoo from 1839-1846. So, there was a lot of family history to be learned while on our trip. <br />
<br />
My dad and I have been working together on what we call "The Collection," our collection of family histories and photographs. With the advent of the internet and social media, there are a lot of family photos and histories out there for the googling. So, we've acquired a lot of new pictures of my ancestors.<br />
<br />
As I started collecting these pictures, I was really excited about them and wanted to display them or somehow make it easier to see these pictures on a regular basis. I thought about a family history display wall, but I don't have any wall space for such a thing.<br />
<br />
Awhile back, I <a href="http://catchthewindow.blogspot.com/2011/09/ancestor-cards-how-i-did-it.html" target="_blank">came across the idea</a> to make Ancestor Cards. I decided this was a perfect solution. I started by making ancestor cards for my ancestors that lived in Navuoo, in preparation for our trip. I hope to branch out (ha! family history pun!) to more of my ancestors in the future.<br />
<br />
<div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;">

<div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdHhdWIM43u0wRXZwAyifpOiBdgd30AjS4xn-QYV8FFcsAxwWyrIJgcz3okZx1TXm-U4fvDJ8XjBOWongR8DmIoc8fGbTwJ_EGX3VCimS1dJ4rHN-CUon7DWvLusnLLumBFr6c2wSH0DY/s1600/DSC_04402.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdHhdWIM43u0wRXZwAyifpOiBdgd30AjS4xn-QYV8FFcsAxwWyrIJgcz3okZx1TXm-U4fvDJ8XjBOWongR8DmIoc8fGbTwJ_EGX3VCimS1dJ4rHN-CUon7DWvLusnLLumBFr6c2wSH0DY/s320/DSC_04402.jpg" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Each Ancestor Card has little icons on it to tell you more about that ancestor at a glance. The Angel Moroni Icon means they were a member of the LDS church. The Nauvoo Temple Icon means they lived in Nauvoo. The Wagon Icon means they crossed the plains as a pioneer. There's a flag from their country of birth, plus a little code that tells you their relation to me. Joseph Armstrong Fisher down there has a P3GG because he is my Paternal 3rd Great Grandfather. I also listed birth/marriage/death dates and places, as well as their ages at marriage and death. When available, I used a picture of them for the front; when I didn't have one, I used a picture of their tombstone or a map of where they were from. Sometimes they had more than one picture.</div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixJ3j4fPy1YgSG2VOgUXPB-5BNQb-gwJWrLWEbCa8UuSDCEeuuDFq_AL6hoMRmylHMkWbtr-jD4vLSjGTWxNZfeNUUF9QC5ZvzS-FUjrPJkejvkFp6jlZQ1yPiy5sjcywKYZe-xuAYGuQ/s1600/DSC_04584.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixJ3j4fPy1YgSG2VOgUXPB-5BNQb-gwJWrLWEbCa8UuSDCEeuuDFq_AL6hoMRmylHMkWbtr-jD4vLSjGTWxNZfeNUUF9QC5ZvzS-FUjrPJkejvkFp6jlZQ1yPiy5sjcywKYZe-xuAYGuQ/s320/DSC_04584.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
On the back, I listed bullet points about each ancestor (which I unfortunately forgot to photograph). I had known many stories about my ancestors, but sometimes mixed up which ancestor went to which story. The bullet points help me keep track of this.<br />
<br />
Then, I know at just a glance which ancestor was the tailor who made suits for Joseph Smith and Abraham Lincoln, which one was widowed at a young age when her husband died in a shipyard accident, which one's fiance accidentally married someone else, which one made the lock for the front door of the Nauvoo Temple, and which one lost his hammer for 56 years when it got built inside the council building.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRSR_RtV2I3t7s_3P1WjS6SumgMQ5qN_Z2PSzgsiZ9mxEpUnN8UN8bUbzH-VV1uaTTyqaFkZDuSfj2WnZsRR_w1I2QsOCqqd4uv7gHF_BO2s83BF9owzR2kddnB3ZD5ILjiO8W9yQpI5g/s1600/DSC_04635.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRSR_RtV2I3t7s_3P1WjS6SumgMQ5qN_Z2PSzgsiZ9mxEpUnN8UN8bUbzH-VV1uaTTyqaFkZDuSfj2WnZsRR_w1I2QsOCqqd4uv7gHF_BO2s83BF9owzR2kddnB3ZD5ILjiO8W9yQpI5g/s320/DSC_04635.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
In order to make these Ancestor Cards, I read every history I had for each person. For Joseph Knight, that meant a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Servant-Joseph-Knight-Family-Restoration/dp/1573453064" target="_blank">whole, quite long, book</a>. Some had 50 page histories, some had 10 five-page histories, and some had a 1 page summary from <a href="http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=44599165" target="_blank">Find A Grave</a>. The cards took a long time. I started in December and finished in July.<br />

<br />
I started with my ancestors, then moved to my husband's ancestors. His were a bit harder, because I didn't have as much information to begin with. To figure out which of his ancestors were in Nauvoo, I googled the likely people (mostly 3rd Great Grandparents) and read all their (and their family's) histories that I could find. I was able to find pictures for most of them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-JeHHf5vyUStHi7R4jLGD-UEHQgCqEdw4_eRDIw7XoY8TLbinE3xDdA57yusH3TXGYXgiTOhW2VH7Fs4ad_r7GTP-j22ehAu9DtJR26sc-9mb2sillfA25UjQHHbhVm-zBmkOfPmT-m4/s1600/DSC_04667.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-JeHHf5vyUStHi7R4jLGD-UEHQgCqEdw4_eRDIw7XoY8TLbinE3xDdA57yusH3TXGYXgiTOhW2VH7Fs4ad_r7GTP-j22ehAu9DtJR26sc-9mb2sillfA25UjQHHbhVm-zBmkOfPmT-m4/s320/DSC_04667.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxYE7aZ_YVttyTgu1ZvCoMlPwmvf_1U4xzUOFi-8JtNSYbGmxnc4YpjVHAYb98ttUAmvHPnSCpfPYDozpdlj8M2cASud1kXhke2xAxtjbtrnzJOKzuDo5nPXnvNTGwnuis6X7rafk431o/s1600/DSC_04688.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxYE7aZ_YVttyTgu1ZvCoMlPwmvf_1U4xzUOFi-8JtNSYbGmxnc4YpjVHAYb98ttUAmvHPnSCpfPYDozpdlj8M2cASud1kXhke2xAxtjbtrnzJOKzuDo5nPXnvNTGwnuis6X7rafk431o/s320/DSC_04688.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I color-coded the cards (yellow for my ancestors, green for my husband's). There are 17 yellow and 13 green. I did them all in Photoshop Elements. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWveJPlqx5clQUon_xci2IkOU2PdvRVc4hsZL6KaqyebmHZIu4P7K87JD21Y74zdNgJI25LcJtrSukxVP1AQtEx05m05-Pf4t8g3eMWkM8tCuDu7QGGwu-s54oVxiafhLEXpIgTLfMRsA/s1600/DSC_04699.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWveJPlqx5clQUon_xci2IkOU2PdvRVc4hsZL6KaqyebmHZIu4P7K87JD21Y74zdNgJI25LcJtrSukxVP1AQtEx05m05-Pf4t8g3eMWkM8tCuDu7QGGwu-s54oVxiafhLEXpIgTLfMRsA/s320/DSC_04699.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Oh, the printing and the cutting! I printed (went through a lot of ink!) and cut out <i>95</i> individual ancestor cards (I made several sets to hand out at the family reunion in Nauvoo). I thought I'd found a company that would do it cheaply, but they weren't able to print it quite the way I wanted, so I ended up formatting them to be front and back and printing them myself on my home printer. I printed them on cardstock, then laminated them at a local office supply store.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio5kcegGbPQfeIES2APmPEyJxlbGTy6P6pZTCp4kcEkFIPtuym555T9qJwIrs_BPZvYY_Qpb9-y50a5wztRBBOl9r2xZTsXNeJ5a9BtAIxYZWJLffd5w7lXcYIl5n1njxO-ZLpCKO8I7A/s1600/DSC_047310.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio5kcegGbPQfeIES2APmPEyJxlbGTy6P6pZTCp4kcEkFIPtuym555T9qJwIrs_BPZvYY_Qpb9-y50a5wztRBBOl9r2xZTsXNeJ5a9BtAIxYZWJLffd5w7lXcYIl5n1njxO-ZLpCKO8I7A/s320/DSC_047310.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Though they were an immense amount of work to put together, I am so glad I made them. I hope to make more. Originally designed to be a bit of a cheat sheet for me as I referenced my ancestors, they made it so that I don't need a cheat sheet anymore. The process of putting them together has taught me about my forebears.<br />

<br />
I <i>know</i> these men and women now. They aren't just names and dates on a piece of paper or in a computer file. They aren't just interesting stories or cool pictures. I know and love each of these ancestors of mine now. Of course, some day I will meet them in person, and get to know them even better. But, the process of finding pictures, doing research, and reading their histories (and taking notes) so closely that I could pull out highlights, has taught me about these men and women as individuals and as children of God.<br />
<br />
I think this is the most fulfilling "craft project" I've ever done.

Are you having a good summer? We're having lots of fun around here! I just thought I'd pop in and show you this cute little dress I made for a baby shower.

I didn't use a pattern, I just copied the shape from a dress I'd seen at the mall. <br />

It was tricky to find a good spot to photograph it; in this house of boys, there's not much girly stuff around. :) I tried the hooks in my "baby's" room. Zoom out a little, though...and it's obvious it's a boy's room! </div>

I found this idea and printable at <a href="http://www.thehappyscraps.com/2013/05/last-minute-teacher-gift.html">The Happy Scraps</a>. I'm all about easy and inexpensive (and useful!) and this fits the bill! I think it's cute with the washi tape attaching the card, don't you? <br />

I pin and pin them. I'm a visual person and I love seeing inspirational words displayed in such a pretty way. <br />
<br />
I have fun making my own, too. I love the cheery yellow of this one (it's my favorite color). The adorable yellow flower "paper" comes from <a href="http://citrusandmint.weebly.com/">Citrus and Mint</a>. Love her designs. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
As I was designing this, I asked my 5 year old if he liked it and if he thought it was pretty. His response, "Well, yeeaaaah...if I could figure out what it is!" Ha! I just love that boy and I love being a mother. I hope you all have a great Mothers Day!<br />

My whole family wears <a href="http://www.glassesusa.com/">glasses</a>. I started wearing them when I was 17 and couldn't see the chalkboard very well in my chemistry class at school. I don't wear mine all of the time, but I'm finding that I have to wear them more and more these days. Man, getting older is lame. :) I really like my latest pair, though. They make me feel trendy. :)</div>

<br />
Over the years, I have bought a lot of pairs of glasses. (Ever tried to keep one-year-olds in glasses? Man, we were buying new pairs ALL the time when they were little. Fortunately the older they get the less often they destroy them. :) I've tried to <a href="http://www.glassesusa.com/">buy glasses</a> cheaply--we're all looking to save some money, right? I was recently introduced to <a href="http://www.glassesusa.com/">GlassesUSA.com</a>. With all the pairs of glasses my family buys, I may just have to try them out.<br />
<br />
This cute pair is quite similar to the <a href="http://www.glassesusa.com/">eyeglasses</a> I'm currently sporting, but for at least half the price I bought mine for!</div>
<div>
<div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO-U8XzUXHoxluGaC3CUqIAna5pY0t-IKzWlNewyiuaNp5L14Qu5PjgEBbPjRgpxalQczga3rqPTeIzuny77pR5CMKiyzJZCkuy6kOkYbKDFZy8VNQOUCmBaMvGRoaHuwXkskZMB0ldABo/s1600/3237_u.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO-U8XzUXHoxluGaC3CUqIAna5pY0t-IKzWlNewyiuaNp5L14Qu5PjgEBbPjRgpxalQczga3rqPTeIzuny77pR5CMKiyzJZCkuy6kOkYbKDFZy8VNQOUCmBaMvGRoaHuwXkskZMB0ldABo/s400/3237_u.jpg" /></a> </div>
They even have a fun Virtual Mirror where you can virtually try on various pairs of glasses to see how they look on you. Here are a couple of the pairs that I tried on:<br />
<br />
These are the ones in the above picture. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFhPL-LE1IOOlSwTC9Wil_3CGPbk7fGnYxMq-4XjrSJgZT2aFRprtrkcj6AgHOT3PTVgs8S9ie8nvKaczEPO2zEajsndgsy8GT48hz_5F2hrOYk9bT3NIZ7MPwKWqCI25NNuiORWyr_xkY/s1600/Fullscreen+capture+4302013+33203+PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nopin="nopin" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFhPL-LE1IOOlSwTC9Wil_3CGPbk7fGnYxMq-4XjrSJgZT2aFRprtrkcj6AgHOT3PTVgs8S9ie8nvKaczEPO2zEajsndgsy8GT48hz_5F2hrOYk9bT3NIZ7MPwKWqCI25NNuiORWyr_xkY/s320/Fullscreen+capture+4302013+33203+PM.jpg" width="247" /></a></div>
<br />
Or I could go a little more hipster with these. Ha!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEIDzw1u5oxkWfilSC9pHn8_TqKMCmVYqjxclP7UBdMrE2rIRWPEq4NdyhrXUX5_xYPIqW7jpLxqZVxRpHDnRN7Qu97bJVqojngoomJIYvk6HM4L1u-4-nqXUmxSX1k_AnP_-fTEwdEXqP/s1600/Fullscreen+capture+4302013+33354+PM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" nopin="nopin" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEIDzw1u5oxkWfilSC9pHn8_TqKMCmVYqjxclP7UBdMrE2rIRWPEq4NdyhrXUX5_xYPIqW7jpLxqZVxRpHDnRN7Qu97bJVqojngoomJIYvk6HM4L1u-4-nqXUmxSX1k_AnP_-fTEwdEXqP/s320/Fullscreen+capture+4302013+33354+PM.jpg" width="247" /></a></div>
<br />
Try on your own <a href="http://www.glassesusa.com/">online eyeglasses</a> with their Virtual Mirror. You can pick the pair you look best in or just have fun trying on hipster glasses like me. :)<br />

He wants to be a marine biologist, specifically studying the Giant Squid. He has decided upon his major, college choice, and future graduate work. This is awesome. Especially since he's 10. :) Granted, I picked my major when I was 12 (and got my degree in it) so it's entirely possible he'll see it through.<br />
<br />
For now, he is constantly drawing squids, his pinewood derby car was a squid, and he and his best friend design submarines at recess everyday. So, when I needed to come up with a birthday gift for him that could be made cheaply at home, I thought it'd be fantastic to make a stuffed squid for his bed. <br />

To say that he LOVES it would be an understatement. <br />

Personally, I'm rather proud of myself for thinking to use polka dot fabric for the suction cup sides of the arms and tentacles (he informs me that they're not all tentacles, only the long ones are). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I didn't have a pattern, I just sketched out what I thought the squid should look like, added 1/2 inch seam allowances to my sketch, and cut it out.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was a great scrap buster. I used leftover polka dot fabric<a href="http://jengerbreadcreations.blogspot.com/2011/08/black-and-white-polka-dot-dress.html" target="_blank"> from this dress</a> and <a href="http://jengerbreadcreations.blogspot.com/2011/10/dumbledore-costume.html" target="_blank">gray fabric leftover from the Dumbledore costume</a> from a couple Halloweens ago. The eyes (one on each side) were made of felt I had in my stash. </div>

<div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: left;">
I sewed everything right sides together and stuffed it. I basted it together as I assembled it, as working with all those arms was rather complicated--too complicated for pinning. </div>

And this weekend, my church is holding our twice-a-year General Conference. It's 4 general 2 hour sessions of talks from our leaders and our prophet. I LOVE listening to the inspired words and feeling the holy Spirit. If you'd like to watch it with me, you can watch or listen to it<a href="http://www.lds.org/general-conference?lang=eng" target="_blank"> here</a>.<br />
<br />
My favorite quote so far comes from Sister Elaine S. Dalton, "Our part matters because WE matter." So, of course I had to make a printable to pin to Pinterest. :) So, here it is: <br />
<br />

I realized near the end of last year that this blog, and all the cute craftiness that went with it, were taking my focus away from where it should be. I was becoming guilty of craftiness for craftiness' sake, something I said<a href="http://jengerbreadcreations.blogspot.com/2011/03/jengerbread-creations.html" target="_blank"> here</a> that I've always disliked. Not only does it take away focus from my family and other priorities, it's also expensive! So, things got a bit sparse while I was busy. <br />
<br />
But, I don't want the blog to disappear, so I decided I'm going to occasionally write some posts about parties and projects that I did before I started this blog. There's no law that says my projects have to have been done right before I blog them, right? :) Plus, I have a few projects coming up that I'm doing because I want to or need to, rather than as fodder for the blog, so I'll be posting a bit more often. <br />
<br />
The party I'm posting today was my youngest's 2 year old birthday party (he just turned 5...). It's probably the cutest party I've ever thrown. <br />
<div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheCoGKZ21ztJ9_TA1Ivy5Jd45aaNNLiByjh25rS681JnTkEKU3RgRg5LcE7W-KKTHR8yhO5OzGdWkelAqMgBr7DAi0oOO_Ot3dHaoD1dISv2bQE3yUUDmcF4rVMyrRAB5dLWO_mh9XyDSm/s1600/100_6587.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheCoGKZ21ztJ9_TA1Ivy5Jd45aaNNLiByjh25rS681JnTkEKU3RgRg5LcE7W-KKTHR8yhO5OzGdWkelAqMgBr7DAi0oOO_Ot3dHaoD1dISv2bQE3yUUDmcF4rVMyrRAB5dLWO_mh9XyDSm/s400/100_6587.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At the time, he was WAY into ducks. Duck books, duck toys, duck songs, he loved it all. So, what better party theme than rubber ducks?</div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilnnMDTmQFsHZm487bBhjRwHrOK7egEPMdMWhVekOy4WfE86r2QLbOFXwDphIpGyB_5kXCd99f_ryzGra43v56xfiN83zItCI2M4LNnA8VqIgXFOJkclUVWoMYZhs8SL_rErigtdjQ_zQZ/s1600/100_6590.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilnnMDTmQFsHZm487bBhjRwHrOK7egEPMdMWhVekOy4WfE86r2QLbOFXwDphIpGyB_5kXCd99f_ryzGra43v56xfiN83zItCI2M4LNnA8VqIgXFOJkclUVWoMYZhs8SL_rErigtdjQ_zQZ/s400/100_6590.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
The centerpiece of it all was this cute duck cake. I modified <a href="http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/rubber-ducky-cake/6c6a5d65-fead-423b-b939-9e8feb2746a6" target="_blank">this tutorial from Betty Crocker</a> to make it. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made a bunch of cute garlands by punching out blue and yellow circles with a punch and then sewing them together on my sewing machine. Seriously the fastest thing ever. I just pedal-to-the-metal-ed it with my machine pedal and stuck a new circle under the presser foot each time the previous circle moved through. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also picked up a bunch of cheap and cute rubber duckies to sit around as decoration. My little guy has thoroughly enjoyed having a bath full of duckies ever since. :)</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
The blue punch (I think it was Blue Raspberry Kool-Aid) was so cute with little duckies floating in it! And, I was so excited to find out that Target's store brand's <a href="http://www.target.com/p/market-pantry-chickadee-cheddar-crackers-6-6-oz/-/A-13275972" target="_blank">generic "goldfish" crackers</a> looked like little ducks! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The birthday boy and his guests were all just toddlers, so the entertainment was low-key. I gathered every duck book I could get my hands on, from our bookshelves and the local library. I read them all a story, and then let them peruse their own books. </div>

And, in a slightly crazy move, I actually let them all play with rubber ducks in an actual bathtub. I mean, how CUTE is this rubber duck bathtub?! I put a plastic tablecloth underneath and only an inch or two of water in it, and it actually turned out fine. No spills. </div>

As I've mentioned before, pinning good quotes with a pretty presentation is one of my favorite things to do on Pinterest. I had some time last week to play around with photoshop, so I put together a couple quotes for you. Enjoy, and Happy Valentine's Day!<br />

I had so much fun putting this baby shower together. Baby Dear was my favorite book as a little girl. I especially loved its beautiful illustrations. I still have a thing for Little Golden Books today (I collect them, even). I'd been looking for an excuse for years to throw a Golden Book themed party and this little girl baby shower was a perfect chance to do it! <br />
<br />

I tried to have a bit of a vintage feel to the shower, since the book was written in the 1960s. In a moment of serendipity, right as I decided to have the shower feel a bit vintage, my mom called and asked if I wanted a stork decoration. She was cleaning out some storage and thought I might like it. Yes! This cute little stork, while not from the 1960s, was used at <em>my</em> baby shower--the one where <em>I</em> was the baby! It may be from the 1980s rather than the 1960s, but it definitely gave the vibe I was going for. <br />

I scanned in illustrations from the book, found a similar font to the one used on the cover, and worked some Photoshop (Elements) magic. I printed the resulting images out onto cardstock and cut them out. I attached the letters to baby pink ribbon and hung it in my living room. I think it's adorable, if I do say so myself. </div>

I was going to have one be the 11th and the other the 10th, but as I didn't have a pinstripe suit or tan trenchcoat for either of them, they both went has the 11th. He's easier to dress. :)

For my son, I made suspenders out of burgandy ribbon, and a bowtie and fez (fezzes are cool!) out of felt. Then he just wore his sunday shirt, a pair of blue slacks, and carried his awesome LED sonic-screwdriver flashlight.<br />

Granted, nearly nobody knew who they were supposed to be, but my guys knew they had cool costumes even if nobody else did. :) I think it may be time to start encouraging all my friends to watch Doctor Who on Netflix. :)</div>

I swear it was just September, and now there's just a month left in the year. The time just seems to evaporate!
<br />
<br />
One of my twins wanted to go as Mad-Eye Moody this year. He's a big Harry Potter fan. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWdzo6bhkOjSDnlRCKHrynC8PE8IbnL6FgpiPkOc9DgT_Rxuv8v7lfmsTdJBKpCOYt9BE1J_h2semh2U3TyaTLaUsIKjCiiPEzOEY1Ua0NsM30_43E0XqlzBkQ6nK7zbvPm_KsIWwaceUn/s1600/DSC_0214+copy.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWdzo6bhkOjSDnlRCKHrynC8PE8IbnL6FgpiPkOc9DgT_Rxuv8v7lfmsTdJBKpCOYt9BE1J_h2semh2U3TyaTLaUsIKjCiiPEzOEY1Ua0NsM30_43E0XqlzBkQ6nK7zbvPm_KsIWwaceUn/s400/DSC_0214+copy.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: start;">And, his costume was pretty easy. No sewing involved this time. He wore a brown t-shirt, khakis, and an old "pleather" jacket of mine. He carried a wand that was really the staff of one of those little American flags everyone waves on the 4th of July. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: start;">The main construction part on his costume was the "mad" eye. Years back, we bought a box of plastic animals from Michael's or somewhere. Its lid was a spinning globe. I held onto it, thinking it might come in handy sometime. And it totally did! I painted the globe to look like an eye. I hot glued it to some black felt, and attached a ribbon. Easy (and free, since I already had all the supplies!) mad-eye. </span></div>

I have a great offer today from <a href="http://www.treat.com/" target="_blank">Treat</a>! Treat is Shutterfly’s new greeting card brand and their cards are totally fun. You can add pictures and personalize cards for any holiday, including birthdays. And now you can send one <b>for FREE</b>.<br />

They have cute cards for every holiday. How cute is the two-little-turkeys one below?! I think my favorite is the super hero one, though. I think my little guy might be getting one of those for his birthday soon. :) <br />

If so, this Halloween costume will either thrill you, or totally freak you out. :) I went as a Weeping Angel this year! I'm not sure why I went to such effort for a costume that like 2 people at the Halloween party actually<i> got. </i>But, the rest of them either thought I was a statue or the Statue of Liberty (which, IS a weeping angel, if you've seen the latest Doctor Who episode!), which I guess is close enough.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9n22RZBFJAr1FPF0G_2vkHG94D_r9oDPtUUqzOiSQgZehjO4dH2JHSRpfM9-1MPPJInrYYonW_puRGJGEl-crBv91XUZT8O4j8BckcvRZ89GN9YzofMb5mHJuv4KzVdidMNNXzQFPbM-s/s1600/DSC_0391+copy.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9n22RZBFJAr1FPF0G_2vkHG94D_r9oDPtUUqzOiSQgZehjO4dH2JHSRpfM9-1MPPJInrYYonW_puRGJGEl-crBv91XUZT8O4j8BckcvRZ89GN9YzofMb5mHJuv4KzVdidMNNXzQFPbM-s/s400/DSC_0391+copy.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
If I were a really on-the-ball blogger, I would have had this costume done in September and blogged it the first week of October (and would now be posting Christmas tips). But, I'm not. I'm a busy mom of three who got all the costumes done just in the nick of time. :) I've got a few more in the pipeline for...when I get to it. (Just keeping it real, people, just keeping it real.) :)<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had a few Facebook friends tell me they couldn't look at my pictures (or look away, if you know what I mean), as it was too freaky. Can't say I blame them. Weeping Angels are, in my opinion, the scariest Doctor Who villains. </div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used<a href="http://www.therpf.com/f24/doctor-who-blink-weeping-angel-costume-49264/" target="_blank"> this tutorial</a> as a jumping off point. I wasn't going to go quite as gung ho as she did, as this was just for a few hour church Halloween Trunk or Treat. But, it gave me a few ideas as to how to execute the costume. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used foam poster board to do the wings. I cut wing shapes out of the foam board, and used the extra left over to cut "feathers" out of. I hot-glued the feathers to the wings. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6WeHcM9WBWwigFpPBQKR-ZYHwnlGz0HKutUJ0qY_ZoIlAaSZv7_33_wcYousergKhxXLFVr1epvgKcKUJycf3AwQ-tfKTsHxK5fAt2i-cT4yKDKEl2hHf2R1n-Eq2n1tk-6xM6vk22KhR/s1600/DSC_0410+copy.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6WeHcM9WBWwigFpPBQKR-ZYHwnlGz0HKutUJ0qY_ZoIlAaSZv7_33_wcYousergKhxXLFVr1epvgKcKUJycf3AwQ-tfKTsHxK5fAt2i-cT4yKDKEl2hHf2R1n-Eq2n1tk-6xM6vk22KhR/s400/DSC_0410+copy.jpg" /></a> </div>
<div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
I used duct tape to tape the wings together, looser on the outside and tighter on the inside (if that even makes sense...), so they'd stay in a partly closed position. </div>
</div>
<div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;">
<div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD2w6mLdj5qEC8N1FLDrpFElQXjskB4h12qG51Y8nH_J8GxZuJNzIpP1MnyQZj-ARnH9x48jH8oyTKvmnFXS5Mm-XgD_EE8P_6ZSDP4HSIhtqpGIrr4ee_4a6Chx7pb2PB_EXxL8UfUM9q/s1600/IMG_4098.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD2w6mLdj5qEC8N1FLDrpFElQXjskB4h12qG51Y8nH_J8GxZuJNzIpP1MnyQZj-ARnH9x48jH8oyTKvmnFXS5Mm-XgD_EE8P_6ZSDP4HSIhtqpGIrr4ee_4a6Chx7pb2PB_EXxL8UfUM9q/s400/IMG_4098.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then spray-painted them well, duct tape and all. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF_5c79gdNzZgIaryZ5upDj5iwOCR9zV7zf1oW_mN5YoNrW4FnKVTUkKr0-Vz3ETblBq0vUp4TPevsWLg286m-KrON_XTga6RsgKOPlCrc96YkyOPBEWOGG40xQkIKZ2dWeejhaJJ8MpZu/s1600/IMG_4099.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF_5c79gdNzZgIaryZ5upDj5iwOCR9zV7zf1oW_mN5YoNrW4FnKVTUkKr0-Vz3ETblBq0vUp4TPevsWLg286m-KrON_XTga6RsgKOPlCrc96YkyOPBEWOGG40xQkIKZ2dWeejhaJJ8MpZu/s400/IMG_4099.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then added some elastic to them so I could wear them (in the same manner as the costume/little kid fairy wings you can buy). I should have used heavier elastic, but all I had on hand was skinny little stuff, and by that point, I was ready to just.be.done.already. :) By the end of the night, my wings were pretty droopy (see picture above--I had to keep remembering to pull them up) because the elastic over-stretched. Eh. It worked out fine for one night. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJAAC0NZsWja5_5tqQXvSL0uwSd6GyxZZqjg1bzn6zxzLRRmaO0TNoLcJWlxtYjrZIxn-iC4OUDZc7IblZ6juG_ByP9Ntw-fbU4-M-_mFhc3QWK8p5CdeS0xVbzwM1PtH656lC5hs11HMY/s1600/DSC_0414+copy.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJAAC0NZsWja5_5tqQXvSL0uwSd6GyxZZqjg1bzn6zxzLRRmaO0TNoLcJWlxtYjrZIxn-iC4OUDZc7IblZ6juG_ByP9Ntw-fbU4-M-_mFhc3QWK8p5CdeS0xVbzwM1PtH656lC5hs11HMY/s400/DSC_0414+copy.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used gray tights as long gloves, just like the original tutorial did. I probably could have just bought gray winter gloves, as it was rather cold the night of the (partly outdoor) party, and I wore a grey long-sleeved shirt over the long "gloves" for warmth.</div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglFZw1KmULVx_W3rcL5vNvvoCo7Dxf6ByfZqCFTZXrar1tJ-VMQXFpJ5DljnJFMHT34aCLrfpzUe4eoxhYQCkr2aMz9CtJ5vdqD_J1EC-6eNave8asXHNv-K5yRNF5OxKfvOIjomiw9Ptm/s1600/DSC_0386+copy.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglFZw1KmULVx_W3rcL5vNvvoCo7Dxf6ByfZqCFTZXrar1tJ-VMQXFpJ5DljnJFMHT34aCLrfpzUe4eoxhYQCkr2aMz9CtJ5vdqD_J1EC-6eNave8asXHNv-K5yRNF5OxKfvOIjomiw9Ptm/s400/DSC_0386+copy.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
For the dress, I drafted a yoke for the top, then draped about 2 yards (1.5 maybe? Bad blogger...no good records were kept!) of fabric, gathered well, and attached it to the yoke (both in front and in back). </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I sewed the sides together, leaving the arm holes very large (and sleeveless) because I was just too lazy to bother with a zipper or anything. I wanted this quick and easy and able to slip over my head! I then tied a grey ribbon around the waist and we had a dress! I duct taped (yes, sewing blasphemy, I know) a hula hoop to the hem, to give me a statue look. </div>

The wig was one of my favorite parts. I sewed grey yarn to a...ahem...pantyhose cap, then braided and twisted the yarn into an angel-esque hairstyle. I added a ribbon headband and everything. Bobby pins don't really work with a yarn wig, of course, so I secured the bun with a few stitches. </div>

It was a very fun costume to wear, even if only a select few knew what I was. <i>I </i>knew what I was, and my Doctor Who fan family members knew who I was, and they had a great time with me as I pretended to be a Weeping Angel and tried to "get" them. :) I had a seriously fun time wearing this costume and fully embracing my nerdiness. </div>
